Nice site! I’m a single mother of two teenagers namely Christopher and Janette, I am very lucky to find Military school for boy since Christopher is starting to explore right now. He always wants adventure, fascinate military system and mostly he wants to be independent from us. This is very helpful for me as a mother, anytime now I will also enroll Janette in Military school for girl , she always wants to be like her big brother. Honestly I’m quite worry about my daughter Janette but I just found out that they offer a safe and disciplined girl boarding school

/ Polygamy: An idea to save the black community |
on: Mar 29th, 2007, 7:51pm |
| Started by Ligon | Post by Ligon |
Here is a part of an article I came across. The author is making an interesting suggestion.
"Seeing the number of children born in poverty and the number of unwed sisters, it's apparent that the nuclear family concept is not working for us. Polygamy could be a solution, if men approached it as a way to strengthen the the future of the Black community. But not having the proper mindset or the required wealth, it is not a viable solution to women and children.
However the problem remains, children in poverty, dysfunctional communities, single women, etc. Since the nuclear family concept is not working, it's time we start to think outside the box for the sake of the children. The only viable option I see is for women to "collectively" take control of the situation. Maybe Black women like Ophra and the local churches could provide financial support to jump start this operation.
The point is, what we are doing now is not working and we have got to be creative, bold, progressive, and radical if there will be a bright future for the Black community."

I was infuriated when I read this story. I still am. It seems to be acceptable now to publicly shame our young black boys, thereby; perpetuating the belief that they are inherently bad and unworthy of being treated with respect which further undermines their self-esteem and self worth. Why was it necessary to traumatize this young boy, who, I think, unknowingly broke the law? Why wasn’t confiscating the bike and talking to the parent enough? Should the young boy have run from the police officers? No, but he responded like the child that he is, and ran away from these strangers who yelled at him. It’s also disturbing to me that two grown men: the police officer and his supervisor felt that arresting this 7-year-old boy was acceptable. Was it a slow day at the police station, couldn’t find enough grown folks to lock up? Please. This kind of treatment of our young black boys is what contributes to the hostile relationship between law enforcement and the poor urban communities that they “serve”.

/ 7-year-old arrested on dirt bike |

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070316/ap_on_re_us/dirt_bike_arrest
Fri Mar 16, 2:56 PM ET
BALTIMORE - Police arrested a 7-year-old boy, handcuffed him and hauled him down to the station house on a charge of riding a motorized dirt bike on a sidewalk.
Then, according to his mother, Gerard Mungo Jr. was handcuffed to a bench and interrogated before being released to his parents.
"They scared me," Gerard told The Baltimore Examiner before breaking down in tears.
Mayor Sheila Dixon apologized Friday for the arrest, and police commissioner Leonard Hamm said it would be investigated internally.
The arrest came after an officer saw Gerard riding his dirt bike on the sidewalk in east Baltimore on Tuesday, police spokesman Matt Jablow said. Hamm, citing the internal probe, declined to discuss how the rest of the incident unfolded.
Lakisia Dinkins said her son was sitting on the bike with the motor off on the sidewalk when an officer grabbed him by the collar and pulled him off.
"I told them to let go of my baby," Dinkins said. "Since when do you pull a 7-year-old child by his neck and drag him?"
Dinkins said she called for a police supervisor to intervene, but the confrontation continued to escalate after the supervisor arrived.
"They started yelling at him, 'Do you know what you did wrong, son?'" Dinkins said. "He was so scared he ran upstairs."
Police arrested Gerard and confiscated the bike.
Dinkins said officers fingerprinted him and took his mug shot. Hamm could not confirm that and said those actions would not have been normal procedure in a non-felony case.
Dinkins said the arrest scarred her son. "This has changed his life," she said. "He'll never be the same."
The Police Department's zero-tolerance arrest policy — begun under former Mayor Martin O'Malley, who is now Maryland's governor — has drawn complaints that such arrests occur most often in poor, black neighborhoods. Gerard is black.
Hamm said the officer had the option of talking with a parent or confiscating the bike. He said that although the city is concerned about nuisance dirt bikes, the arrest "was not consistent with my philosophy of trying to solve problems in the neighborhoods."
The mayor, who appeared Friday with Hamm, said she also planned to look into the case.
"It is clear to me that the arrest was wrong, that the officers on the scene should not have arrested the child, and on behalf of the City of Baltimore I apologize to the boy and his parents," Dixon said.
